Procrastination

Almost everyone has procrastinated some in school and find themselves with only a few days left to finish a major assignment.  When Mrs. Elliott assigned the literary merit research project with a due date a month later, I know a lot of people, including myself, that weren't worried at all about starting it.  A lot of those same people were the ones scrambling to finish it at the last minute and when they asked for more time, Mrs. Elliott refused.  I think the reason she does this is because that is how college is like.  She wants us all to realize that in college, there are no checkpoints to ensure your keeping pace and there are no extended deadlines.  It is up to you to keep track and get whatever assignment done.  For me, that project made me aware that larger projects are even worse for procrastinating.  Small assignments, although still bad to put off, are a lot easier to do in just one night.  Many teachers divide large projects into smaller assignments with guidance along the way.  Apparently in college the professors don't do that.  Now I know that they assign something so far ahead of the due date for a reason and I will definitely use that time more wisely.

  1. I agree with you because in college if we miss the deadline, that's it. No makeups or excuses. Though I think we are all ready because we know when something important is due we'll finish it no matter what haha.

  2. I think you're right that Mrs. Elliott is trying to teach us a lesson about procrastination before we go to college. It is more generous for her to teach us this now because once we head off to college classes cost us time and money to do over.

  3. i have really realized this year how much i procrastinate. This class has really shown me that i need to be more responsible with my time and get my work done on time. If i dont change my bad habits soon, i will definitely struggle in college. i loved this blog becasue the issue you talked about i can really relate to. Nice job!

  4. I also agree with you zach because there are no second chances in the future if we miss assignments. Even though i took chaffey classes and the professors always accepted late work, universities are going to be different. Hopefully we all grow up and realize our priorities when we grow up.
